LIGHTHOUSES

lighthouse

The South Coast of KZN has several underwater shoals and rocky outcrops which have sent many a ship to a watery grave. Lighthouses along the coastline are therefor an absolute neccessity.

GREENPOINT LIGHTHOUSE: Now a national monument, this lighthouse stands guard over the notorious Aliwal Shoal which lies between Umkomaas and Scottburgh.

PORT SHEPSTONE LIGHTHOUSE: This lighthouse served as a signal station for the old Port shepstone harbour. Originally manufacture in Britain and then first used at Green Point and then later moved to Port Shepstone. It is part of a reovated complex that houses the tourist information office, a children's playground and a whale watching deck

NORTH SAND BLUFF LIGHTHOUSE: Situated in Port Edward, this landmark houses a Portuguese shipwreck museum, a coffee shop and 2 self catering cottages.
